Cyrus
Khamak
Cyrus
Khamak has a range of different images from portraits to close ups to
landscapes but in my opinion the close images are the best and the
most effective. I picked to look at Cyrus K’s images in more detail
because I felt his work really shows close up well and I like the
different angles and arrangements of compositions he uses. Cyrus has
a strong use of colour and I think this shows in the images I have
chosen to look at.
This
image is linked to the theme close up because it’s a close up of
two jellyfish. I really like the arrangement of the composition (rule
of thirds) because the main subject isn’t in the center but of the
right. I think the bright, bold colours shows the beauty of jellyfish
and create a contrast to the pale blue background. I think this image
was taken to show the beauty of the jellyfish and to show the
different colours. The main subjects in this image are the jellyfish.
This
image links to the theme; close up, because the image is a close up
of the splash of water. I like this image because the main subject is
in focus and the rest is not and also the colour of the water isn’t
the typical colour of water and this makes the image different to
others. I like how Cyrus has captured the circular waves created
around the droplet and the use of the light has made the waves more
prominent. This image is very calming to the eye when you look at it
because the colours blend well together and the water looks smooth.
This
image links to the theme because it’s an extreme close up of a
colourful lizard. I don’t know if he edited the colour on to the
lizard or if they were the colours but the colours are very bold and
bright and I think this makes the image stand out from the rest and
is more overpowering. I really like the composition because most of
the composition is filled with the lizard’s head and the lizard’s
eye looks like its looking straight at the viewer. The use of light
really helps the colours pop out to the viewer. I think the main
subject in this image is the lizard’s eye.
This
image links to the theme because it is a close up of a bird. I really
like the lighting of this image because the light seems to be coming
from the bottom left side of the image shinning up to the bird and
this really highlights the colours of the bird and the green leafs on
the left of the image. The dark background behind the bird really
makes the bird stand out and the light helps this too. The main
subject in this image is the bird.
Cyrus
Khamak has influenced me to look at the lighting of my shots more and
make that it helps and enhances the object or person I am taking
images of. I think if I took as much time as I think Cyrus Khamak
takes I think my images and work would benefit. Also his use of
colour is really prominent in his images and I think I should also
improve on what colours suit the images I take and how the colour
could improve them.
Overall I have really found looking at Cyrus Khamak look interesting and I'm glad that I looked at his work because he has inspired me to look at the lighting of my outdoor shots.
David Bailey
This image also links to the theme because its a close up of a tiger. I think this image is amazing because of the complexity of the composition and the action of the tiger. I think the black and white really highlights the teeth and the dark strips on the tigers fur. I think the composition was well thought out and I think this image is just amazing and must have been hard to capture. In my opinion the teeth are the first thing I look at in this image and I think this leads the eye around the image.
This image links to the theme of close up because it is done using a macro lens and the images show close ups of water splashing. I really like the that the three drops are at different stages of splashing and that there different colours. I have no idea how she managed to capture all tree and with such detail. The background of this image shows the same colours of the drops but there lighter and in reverse to the arrangement of the colours. Because the splashes are bold with colour and detail, the background doesn't have to be bold and this subtle colouring works. I think the main focus is the detail in the water splashes and the colours used.
This image links to the theme because its a close up of water splashing. Carrie White explains this type of images as being "Tiny Dancers" and I think this is a nice way to explain them. I really like that the tallest splash is on the right and goes down in height to the left. I like that there different colours and that there different shapes. The background doesn't distract from the main focus, the water, and I like the way the image has been arranged and cropped. The lighting for this type of photography must be really difficult to get correct and I would love to be able to do this in the future.
This image has a lot going on and I like this about the image. The main focus is the colour, in my opinion, because its the first thing I see. The image links to the theme because it is a close up of water. I think this image was created by three or four images and they have been overlapped. I think the different colours work well together and the background highlights those colours. I think the arrangement is creative and I like the way the image has been cropped.
Overall I have really found looking at Cyrus Khamak look interesting and I'm glad that I looked at his work because he has inspired me to look at the lighting of my outdoor shots.
David Bailey
David Bailey is a famous English
photographer who was born in 1938 in London. In 1957 he served with the Royal
Air Force in Malaysia and after became a photographic assistant at the John
French studio. After he become contracted as a fashion photographer for Vogue
magazine. I picked David Bailey because his work links to my theme and he is one of the most famous photographers.
This image is of a sixties modal Jean
Shrimpton and was taken by David Bailey. The composition consists of Jean
Shrimpton from her shoulders to about half way on her forehead. She is looking
up towards the corner of the top right side of the composition and her face is
at the side. The image is in black and white and this increased the contrast of
her skin to her hair and facial features. Her skin is nearly the same colour as
the background and this creates an affect that I think really works. I think if
this image was in colour the contrast wouldn’t have been as affective. The
shadow under chin is very dark and this highlights her jawbone. I think this image is really nice and you can
tell that it has been taken by one of the most famous photographers.
This image is by David bailey and I like
the contrast of her face to her dark hair and the shadows. The lighting that
was used to create this image was probably up in front of the woman where she
is looking up at and I don’t the shadows wound be as bold and strong as they
are in the image if David Bailey hadn’t been one of the best photographer ever
(In my opinion). The shadows really bring out and make the facial features
stand out. The lines in this composition are very curvy because it’s of the
woman’s face and also the shadows make the image look more 3D. This is one of
my favorite images by David Bailey because of all the above.
This image is of Jude Law and was taken by
David Bailey and was recreate from the photo he took of Michael Caine. The light in this image coming from the left
side of the image and this creates a dark strong shadow on the right side of
Jude Law’s face. His is looking at the
camera lens, which makes it look like he is looking at the viewer, and this
draws the viewer into the image. The way the image has been cropped makes the
first thing the viewer sees is his face. The camera is angled so its looking
slightly down at Jude Law and this creates an increasing effect which makes his
head look bigger then it is. The image above on the left is of Michael Caine taken by David
Bailey.
This image is of Kate Moss and was taken by David Bailey. The light from this image is coming from above her and slightly to the left because there is a dense shadow where her cheek bone is on the right hand side. Her hair is messy and this shows different tones in her hair and frames her face. Like most of David Baileys famous images her face looks the same colour as the background and this creates an interesting effect. This image links to the theme of close up because I class a portrait image as a close up.
David Bailey has influenced me to do a portrait shot with the bright lighting which creates the harsh shadows. I think looking at the lighting of my shoots could really benefit the images I take in the future. The facial features on all the images I have looked at are very dark and bold and I would like to do a shoot to experiment with this. his work is either black and white or at a very low saturation and I think for the shoot I plan to do I will try this out as-well.
Overall I am happy that I looked at David Bailey in more detail because his work is amazing and I really want to create my own images that have interesting lighting and harsh, dense shadows.
Andy Small
Andy Small studied Fine Art and is now a photographer who mainly photographs landscapes and flowers. " The Natural world is my lifelong passion and provides inspiration fro my drawing, painting and photography. The macro lens is like a widow that transports me into another worls. In this place I observe details, shapes and patterns that are not usually seen even though most of the subjects are right under our noses.
I am fascinated by the intricate structure and design found in nature and my photography celebrates this diverse but orderly world that sometimes goes unnoticed." This was what Andy Small said and I thought this explained a lot about him.
This image links to my topic of close up because it is of a flower at a close range. The one thing that strikes me first if the bright blue background and the contrast of the blue background to the white and green flower. I think the arrangement of the composition is really well laid out because the stem comes from the right and the flower hang down which creates an interesting composition. I think this image has really highlighted the fact that these flowers point down and not up like most flowers. The colours are beautiful in this image and I think they make the image.
This image links to my topic because it also is a close up of a flower. Both the background and the flower are pink and this I thought wouldn't work because I thought the flower would get lost in with the background but it still stands out. I think the lighter edges to the petals makes the flower standout the most and also the background I blurred so the flower is the only thing in-focus and the only thing the viewer focuses on. The flower is in the centre of the image and this also shows the viewer to focus on the pink in the flower rather than the background.
This image links to my topic because it again is a close up of a flower. The background in this images is a mixture of pale pinks, yellows, oranges and white and I think it creates an interesting background that highlights the orange flower nicely. The flower has been taken from a slight angle to show the centre of the flower and the petals. The first part of the image I see first is the dark centre of the flower because it is the darkest part and its in the middle of the composition.
This image doesn't directly link to my topic but I liked the composition. The arrangement of the composition I like because the sky takes up about half of the image and the rocks and sea the rest and I think its a nice division. The colours in the sky are really nice because on the left hand side of the image the sun is and it makes the sky yellow/orange and the right side is an arrangement of different tones of blue. I think the main subject in this image is the sun because its bright and its the first thing my eyes look at.
Andy Small has influenced me to look at doing a shoot on close ups of flowers because I want a go of creating interesting compositions like Andy Small. The colours in his images are very geared to one and I think it would benefit me to do this. The image that he has taken look like they have been taken outside but I will use the studio because I do not have a macro lens to take outside. I hope in the future that I could take a marco lens outside and spend time experimenting in the natural light.
Overal Andy Small has been really interesting to look at into more detail and I think I have more knowledgeable to do a close up shoot on flowers. I hope I can create images that has a strong bold colour involved.
Lukas Holas
Lukas Holas is a photographer and graphic designer from the Czech Republic. He Takes images of anything that he finds interesting but his dream is "taking pictures of wild and exotic animals in their natural environment." I wanted to look at Lukas Holas's work because I find the collection of the black and white animal images really interesting and amazing to look at.
This image links to the topic because it is a close up of a eagle and my topic is close up. The image has is black and white, with the background being completely black. The eagle is coming from the left side of the image and has been cropped so the black background frames the top and right side of the image. The tones in the eagle are shown really well in this image because its in contrast to the black background. The main part of this image, I believe to be, is the eagles eye because its the first part of the image I look at.
This image is my favourite from these images I have picked to look at because I like the use of depth of field and the way the zebras white strips stand out because the black bends with the background. This image links to the theme because its a close up of a zebra. The use of the depth of field creates depth in the image and leads the viewers eyes to the zebras face. The main focus in my opinion is the strips in the zebra because there highlighted by the black background. The way Lucas Holas has created this composition is interesting and unique because its not an angle that would be the first to come to mind when photographing a zebra.
This image links to the theme because it shows a close up of a snow leopard (I think). I think this image ask the question what is the animal looking at. I think the lighting of this image really highlights the face and the detail in it face. I like that Lukas Holas has cropped the image so there is more black background because it helps to indicate to the viewer that the animal is look up. I think the main part of this image is the face because it has been lit up and it draws your eyes to the brightest part of the image.
Lucas Holas has influenced me to do a shoot on animals and to make the background minimalistic to make the main focus obvious and detailed. The black and white effect I really like and I think this could be a good idea to try for this animal shoot as-well. I don't have a macro lens so going to the zoo want work very well so I think I could use my dogs, I think this could work well. Depth of field worked really well for the zebra shot so I think I will try and incorporate this into my shoots.
Overall I am happy I looked at Lucas Holes work in more detail because his work is amazing and I hope I could be as creative as him. I think looking at his work has influenced me greatly.
Corrie White
Corrie White was born in The Netherlands and currently is living near London. She has an interest in water drop photography and has creates interesting photographs with water. I picked to look at Corrie White because I have always wanted to try creating images with water and looking at Corrie Whites beautiful work i wanted to try it myself.
This image links to the theme because its a close up of water splashing. Carrie White explains this type of images as being "Tiny Dancers" and I think this is a nice way to explain them. I really like that the tallest splash is on the right and goes down in height to the left. I like that there different colours and that there different shapes. I think the different colours work well together and the background highlights those colours. I think the arrangement is creative and I like the way the image has been cropped.
This image is known to Carrie White as being a "Liquid flower". I love the shape the water has create and the reflection which highlights the shape of the water. The background and foreground are both flat water and it has a subtle light mixture of colours in the water. The ripples that the water creates are highlighted by theses colours and the shadows created by the light source. This image is my favourite because of all the above and the arrangement of the composition.
Carrie White has influenced me to do a shoot where I try and drop water into water and try and get the splash. I want get the amazing shapes and detail as Carrie White gets but I hope that I get some good images. I think the use of subtle colour is a really interesting technique and I would like to incorporate this into some of my images.
Overall Carrie Write has influenced me and I am really happy that I looked at her work. I still want to know how she creates her composition so I may look at buying her e-book.
