Shoot 3

Work Record
For this shoot I want to simply take close up images of flowers. I want to show different parts of a flower and the complexity of the flower. I think both black and white and normal colour flowers would work for this shot but I believe it would depend on the image. After learning how long it takes to focus the lens I have booked the studio for longer to make sure that I have the opportunity to get a wide range of different images. I hope to achieve about 7 images that I think show different arrangements of composition and a range different angles.

Preparation:
  • Book Studio
  • Macro Lens
  • Buy some flowers
  • One studio light
  • Light blue background

Looking at the images I took and edited for this shoot I am happy with the outcomes I got for this shoot. I think these images have a strong link to the theme because most are extreme close ups and overs are just close ups. The range of different composition I got I am pleased with but if a had a bit more time I would have tried looking up at the bottom of the flowers. I did find that the lighting was harder than I expected because a couple of times I had to change the aperture of adjust the studio lights to get the shadows and the lighting the way I wanted.

When editing I found that the saturation of the image dramatically effect the overall look of the image and I wanted to get it right. I kept some images at the same saturation, some I de-satrated and theres some I did it in-between the two. I sharpened all the images and cropped if I thought the composition would benefit.

Overall I am very happy with the 8 images I created for this shoot because I think there the best images I could have created.

This image I am pleased with because I like the depth of field created, I think it shows depth in the image. I think the arrangement of the composition works because the first thing the viewers eyes would be drawn to is the in-focused part or the darkest area and I think this leads the viewers eyes around the composition. When editing this image I lowered the saturation because I didn't want the colour to be overpowering the depth of field and I think it works as an image. I think the contrast of the white against the green centre really creates different tones in the image. I think this image is one of my favourites from this shoot.

This image I also am happy with but I did create the silky effect my mistake when changing the curves on Photoshop. I created this effect by instead of making a S shape I played around with it and this was the result and I'm pleased I did so. I think the composition is good because the whole frame isn't filled so it dosn't look busy and the black background shows the contrast of different colours, I think I increased the contrast to enhance this. I think this image could make a nice kaleidoscope image because the main subject is stretch across from the top left to the bottom right.

The next shot I would like to do is to go to the forest and take different close ups of tree bark, leaves and different texture and object that you find in a forest.

Shoot 2

Work Record
For this shoot I want to look at different textures because I think they would make interesting images. If the images don't turn out the way I want them to go I will but the images in a grid arrangement to make a multiple image. I think depth of field in the image I take would look nice because the blurry parts will lead the viewers eyes to the detailed texture of the focused part.  I hope to get about 5 images that I think are could enough to represent close up and that can follow the first shoot I did.

Preparation:
  • Book the studio
  • Macro Lens
  • One studio light
  • Table
  • Black background paper
  • Different textures

I am happy with the 11 images that I have edited because they show the theme, close up, and I have produced images of different textures that I am happy with. I did take into consideration the amount of time focusing the lens for each image by only taking images of about 4 different textures. I found that when I had the camera set on auto focus the camera didn't know what part of the fabric to focus on so I changed to manual and this sped up the process and it focused on the part I wanted it to.

When editing the images I found black and white or a very low saturation worked best because this high lighted the detail in the different textures and this is what I wanted from the images. There were a couple of images that showed depth of field and I think this suited those images. Before printing and saving the images I sharpened the images to enhance the detail of the textures.

Overall I am happy with this shoot and the images I produced because the images show close up and also I like the images I produced and I think they show the different textures well.

This image is one of my favourites from this shoot because I like the depth of field and the arrangement of the composition. When editing I changed the saturation so it was lower and I found that this made the image cleaner looking and it made the viewer focus more on the texture rather than the colour. I think I could have lighted the image better by directing the light at a different angle and I think this would have made the image more interesting. I also think that this image would have looked good in a series of different images of the same texture but I am happy with the outcome of this image.

I am happy with this image because I found that photographing the fur was harder than I expected and this image I found turned out the way I planned. I like the contrast of the white/grey fur on the black background and this, I think, shows the texture of the fur well. When editing this image I lowered the saturation so it was in black and white and this I thought made the image cleaner. I also think as-well as the image before that this image would look nice as a multiple image piece with different compositions of the same texture.

the next shoot I plan to is of close ups of flowers in the studio. I think the flowers would look really interesting and beautiful if the lighting is right and the composition is right.

Shoot 1

Work Record
For this first shoot I want to take images of the face and the facial features. I think this shoot will be a good to experiment with different angles and when editing trying out different techniques, such as soft focus. I think this shoot is a good shoot to start this project with because it can lead nicely to other ideas and that I could produce some nice images. I hope to get about 4 images that I feel show close up well and that I'm proud of to start this project of with.

Preparation:
  • Macro lens
  • A model
  • Two Studio lights
  • Book the studio
  • The red background

This shoot I think went well because I believe I achieved my aim of getting 4 good starting images that I could aspire to do better as my shoots progress. I did find that I underestimated the difficulty of focusing the macro lens and the time it took to focus it, because of this I didn't get as many shots as I wanted to but I'm happy with the once I did get. Also during the shoot I found I was adjusting the lighting because I wanted a shadow on one side and this took up time to which I didn't take into consideration.

When editing the images I found that the images that I thought were the best were the images of the eyes and I believe this is was because I tried a wide range of different angles and then when I found an angle that worked I stuck to it. Also when editing I wanted to try out different techniques, such as: soft focus, black and white and selective colour and all I found worked well with the images I choose.

Overall I am happy with this shoot because the images I edited I am pleased with and the I have accomplished my own goal of four images that I believe to be a good starting point for this project.

This image I am really happy with because the detail in the eye is clear and I think the black and white effect really works in the images favour. I think the image shows contrast, tone and shape and I like that the eye is at an angle because its different. I like that the black and white brings out the contrast of the dark eye and the light shine. When editing this image a changed the contrast, saturation and I cropped it and I believe that this created a better image then it was to start with.

This image I an happy with but there are things that I would change. I like the angle in which I took the image and the idea of the selective colour but I think I could have created it better if I did it again. If I edited this image again I would have main the colour of the eyes blue because I believe that blue would have blended better against the different tones of black and white, I think the brown/orange stands out too much. I think the idea was there but I didn't turn out as-well as I hoped.

For my next shoot I want to look at texture because I think in the studio and with the macro lens I could get some nice images of different textures. I'm thinking wool would look nice and buttons and zips.
