Work diary
Animation

This shoot I went to the forest and took about ten images for each animation and I completed three animations. The animations I did I really liked and enjoyed doing but I did find unloading them difficult to do. I did two different ways to upload them on to my blog, which where: doing it on Photoshop and the other was using iMovie and uploading to YouTube.

I liked the process because it was basically like making a sequence but the overall effect I liked but not as much as a sequence. I am very happy with the animations I created, there properly not my best but I’m happy I look at the technique and I my use in the future.

I found the Photoshop easy to use then iMovie because to me it was simpler to use, properly because I haven’t used iMovie before and I knew the basics of using Photoshop.

Bobbing people (on blog)

I believe this was my best animation because there’s more movement and I enjoyed making it. Also only the people move and the background stays still which I think really works. I like that the movement is quit big and not slight so they look like there jumping. I think I have shown this technique and I hope I can use it again.

Surrounded by trees (on blog)

I like the idea of this animation but I feel I could have produced it better because some of the images are not well taken and I could have thought about it more. I would like redo this idea if I have some time because I think the process would be much quicker now that I have done it before.
Animation is not my favourite technique to do but if I were to do something else I would love to look at maybe a flower opening or closing. I think this would be really interesting to look at and take images of.

Sequence

1.       To create a sequence you need three or more images that follow on to each over.
2.       First pick an object or person and take an image.
3.       Then take another image that is slightly different to the image previous to it. For example change the position, reduce in size or anything that you can change several times.
4.       Repeat as many times as you feel necessary.
5.       Open all the images on Photoshop and edit the curves and levels according.
6.       Open up a new transparent document on Photoshop A4 size.
7.       Drag all the images on to that one document and rearrange in the correct order to show the sequence.
8.       Make sure there is a gap between each image and the same size gap.
9.       Try and place in a line but if not place so it’s easy to tell the order. E.g. left to right, left to right.

1.     Flatten the image and print.

Depth of field

Minimum
1.       To create a maximum depth of field you need to have your main focus a bit of a distance from the background.
2.       Also you need be a distance away from the main focus as well.
3.       You have your camera set on the biggest focal length e.g. 300
4.       Hold the shooting button down slightly to focus.
5.       Then press all the way down to take the image.
6.       Adjust the distances if the background is not blurry and the main focus is in focus.

Maximum
1.       To create a minimum depth of field you don’t zoom in at all.
2.       Just simple take an image

3.       This will keep everything in the frame in focus.

1.       To make an animation you take serial images that change slightly.
2.       Open them all up on Photoshop and edit the levels and curves accordingly.
3.       Then open up iMovie and drag the images to the page.
4.       Arrange in the correct order.
5.       Add a title and ending.

6.       Then put on YouTube.

Sequences

This image inspires me to look more closely at nature because the way this bird uses its wings to fly and steady its self is really interesting to look at. This you couldn’t see in real motion because it’s too fast but this image shows the complexity of how a bird flies. I would love to try and do this technique and do a whole shoot on it because I think it’s amazing.
This image has inspired me to think outside the box in unit 3. I love that this image is so different and not something most photographers would take images of. The fact that one image can show a motion of a single thing is really cool and I hope that I can create an image like this. The different processes the dog goes though to get over the wall is really interesting to see.
This image inspired me to not worry about the number of frames in the overall image because it will look good anyway. This image I think really shows the slight changes in the opening of the flower and I think this image would look really good as an animation. I like that the position of the flower hasn't changed and I hope to do at least one image that has lots of different images in one.

This image inspires me because I love that the different frames have been combined to make one long image. I would like to find out how to do this and incorporate into my own work. I like that the image has been slit up in to different parts and how it works so well. I love the sea and water so I like the composition.
This image inspires me to look in more detail of the movement of whatever I’m photographing. I love looking at the process of the dog catching the dog and the positions the dogs body creates to get the ball. I also like that the image is in black and white and that there’s and slight border of blur.
This image inspires me to keep it simple, to keep the images separate and to place a border around and in-between the images. I have used this technique before and I think it’s effective so I hope to use it again in the future. I’m not sure what the image is of but the water or smokes works really well as a sequence.

Depth of field
This image inspires me to look closely at the overall image when doing my practical work. This image is split in three parts, the straw field, the green trees and the cloudy sky. All the parts are taking up different sizes of the composition but all have equal impact. The way the image has been taken draws the viewer eyes to the centre of the image. I’m thinking of the theme, for this unit, as nature so I’m happy I looked at this image.
This image inspires me look more closely at nature because I never thought of mushrooms to make a really nice, beautiful image. The way the front mushrooms are in focus and really detailed and the background mushrooms out of focus really shows depth and makes the image so much more interesting.  I really hope I can do a shoot like this and make the images I take as good as this image is.
This image has inspired me to look at different angles that I could possibly do before settling on the easiest and the first one that pops into my head. I love taking images of nature and animals and this image has just made me want to continue to look at nature and animals and to experiment with the images I take. I think I may think about doing a shoot using animals and experiment with angles, depth of field and composition.
This image has inspired me to not always to worry about filling the whole composition with something and just a simple image can be the most effective. I love that there’s just one flower in focus and the background is just blurred and colourful. The way the depth of field has created such an interesting image to look at. I would like to take this idea of keeping it simple into my practical work in unit 3.
This image has inspired me not just to look at nature but to look at people and object in nature. I like that the girl is I’m focus and the grass just is blurred which shows a great depth of field. The angle the image has been taken at is different from angles I have tried before I think. I would like the take this idea into my practical work.
This image inspires me because of the fact that the person in the front isn't in focus but the person in the middle is. This, I think, is a really interesting take on depth of field and I hope to do in my practical work. I can tell this image has a story behind it and I think I lack story telling in my previous work so I hope I can improve n my story telling abilities.

Animation
This animation inspires me to, some of my shoots, not to think about it too much and do something simple, this animation proves that something simple like moving pens can create interesting pieces. I will bring this to my practical work and hopefully when I can’t think of a new idea I will think of this animation.
This animation inspires me to think out the box because this is very different and unique and I think my work lacks that sometimes. I will take this thought into my practical work and maybe will improve it.
This animation inspires me to not think how long it will take to produce but what the end result could be when it’s finished.  This must have taken a long time to produce and I will take in to my practical work the fact that I should not rush my edits and work.

This animation tells a story and my work sometimes lacks this so I will take this into my practical work and think more about what I want to portray in my work. This animation inspires me o do this.
This animation is very simple but effective and this inspires me. The fact that it’s just grass and two leaves makes this easier to watch. I will take the fact that my work has to be clear sometimes into my practical work.
This animation is amazing because of the detail that went into it, the time and effort. I like the idea and I would like to take from this animation that any idea, however crazy it is, can be done. This animation inspires me to try an animation shoot in the future.

Project Proposal

Project Proposal
Nature

This project I’m very much looking forward to because I get to pick the theme in which I shoot. At first I did find it hard to think up a theme that I would enjoy and that I could develop but after looking at my previous work and thinking about what I enjoy photographing, I came up with the theme nature.

Nature I love to be around, take pictures of and I think I have some good ideas for shoots. When I think of nature I think of the forest, animals, greenery, insects and I love being around it. I spent a lot of time camping, at the beach, in the forest, when I was little so I think that’s one reason why I want to do the theme nature.  Also I have always had animals which made me love animals. I really want to show nature in the best way I can and maybe show the bad parts of nature too.

When I think of a beautiful picture I think of flowers or trees or something to do with nature so I think and hope that I can produce some good work.

When I think of what I want to do after college, I have an idea of inertia design. This I would like to incorporate into my project and maybe look at how designers have incorporated elements of nature into their designs.  Maybe look at natural materials or prints of animals or plants.

The images below are images I have found on the internet that really inspire me to choice nature as my theme and that I think are beautiful and that I would like to be able to produce.

These images to me are beautiful and I hope love to be able to produce images like these. The way all the images are created by nature is just amazing and how all the colours are so bright and bold but still represents nature. These images show tone, colour, reflection, form, depth, shape, movement, pattern and texture. I really hope throughout this project I produce some good work that shows nature well.
